Here what cities have the most trusted (and least trusted) tap water in Colorado

A recent survey conducted by IT AMG sought to determine which cities around the country were home to the ‘best tap water.’ More specifically, the company polled 3,000 travelers around the country asking participants if they ‘felt safe’ drinking the tap water in various spots they’ve visited.

Among the 245 cities in the final ranking, seven Colorado spots were included.

Arvada ended up ranking the highest when it came to tap water that visitors felt comfortable drinking, ranking 25th overall. Meanwhile, Lakewood wasn’t far behind, ranking 33rd.

Elsewhere in Colorado, Colorado Springs ranked 51st, Thornton ranked 105th, Denver ranked 120th, Aurora ranked 128th, and Fort Collins ranked the lowest at 186th.

The worst-ranked tap water in the nation was deemed to be that of Detroit, while the best-ranked tap water was that of Wilmington, Delaware.

According to the publication, the survey revealed several common misconceptions related to drinking tap water. In many places around the country, factors like taste or an assumption of pollution negatively impacted visitors’ willingness to drink local tap water, despite that water being deemed totally safe for consumption. One interesting example was New York, with visitors to this city assuming the water is dirty despite the city having one of the most well-protected and tested water supplies in the country. It’s fair to say the same about most places where low ratings are received – visitors might notice a difference in taste and assume that means lower quality, while in reality, that water is often totally safe to drink. IT AMG also noted that locals who are used to their hometown’s tap water tend to have a more positive overall opinion of its quality.

On the note of Colorado’s tap water, it’s worth mentioning that another Colorado town that wasn’t included in this survey is regularly awarded for its world-class tap water. Eldorado Springs has received a long list of awards from the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting competition in recent decades, though this spot was likely too small to come up in the IT AMG survey of frequent travelers.
