Juneteenth holiday closures around metro Denver
Most city and government services will be closed on Wednesday
Officially named a state holiday by Colorado in 2022, Juneteenth will cause various closures throughout the state on Wednesday.
Most government agencies and buildings will be closed on Wednesday in observance of the June 19 holiday that celebrates the ending of slavery in the United States. Mail services will also be postponed during the holiday.
City buildings and offices in Denver — like the Denver Motor Vehicle Title and Registration Office, public libraries, Denver Mayor’s Office, City Council offices and other agencies — will be closed during the holiday.
Aurora will also close the majority of city buildings, with some remaining open and operating on alternate hours.
Adams, Boulder, Jefferson, Douglas and Arapahoe County will also be observing the holiday, closing county buildings and agencies during the day.
All 24-hour agencies — like emergency services and the Denver International Airport — will remain fully operational.
Street parking throughout the city of Denver and Boulder will be free on Wednesday for the holiday. It will return to normal prices on Thursday.
Most businesses and restaurants will remain open on Wednesday, though some may operate with altered schedules. People should check specific business websites before traveling to them.
All state parks, county parks, campgrounds and boat ramps will remain open through the holiday, with Colorado offering free entry to all state parks during the holiday as part of the National Park Service’s “fee-free days” list.
Officials urged the public to check county websites for specific closures on Wednesday.
