Denver Broncos Hall of Fame running back allegedly placed in handcuffs over a cup of ice

Denver Broncos Hall of Fame running back Terrell Davis was detained by FBI agents over the weekend after an incident during a commercial plane flight, according to Terrell Davis’ Instagram social media account.

The incident occurred on a United Airlines flight from Denver to John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California.

According to Davis, during beverage service his son had politely requested a cup of ice, however, either the flight attendant didn’t hear his son’s request or ignored the request, and continued past the Davis’ row.

“I calmly reached behind me and lightly tapped his (the flight attendant’s) arm to get his attention to again ask for a cup of ice for my son,” Davis said. “He shouted ‘don’t hit me’ after I tapped the flight attendant on the arm.”

The flight attendant then moved to another part of the plane.

Davis said he was confused, as were other passengers on the plane sitting around him and his family.

Before passengers were allowed to depart the plane upon landing, Davis said the captain asked everyone to remain seated for the time being.

According to Davis, six FBI and law enforcement officers then came onto the plane, handcuffed and escorted him off the plane without providing a reason why.

After questioning inside the Orange County airport, Davis said the FBI told him they agreed with Davis and that the flight attendant made an inaccurate accusation. Davis said the FBI agents apologized to him and then released him.

Davis said he was in shock over the traumatizing events while traveling with his wife, two sons and daughter.

Davis said he thought the flight attendant was “incredibly rude and blatantly wrong in his accusations of me hitting him” and that he didn’t interact with the attendant for the rest of the flight.

“I refuse to stand by without speaking out on this disgusting display of injustice and deplorable treatment by United Airlines,” Davis said. “I demand a thorough and proper investigation into the flight attendant who blatantly lied and placed undue harm on me and my family.”

Davis said his legal team is reaching out to United Airlines regarding the incident.

The Denver Gazette reached out to United Airlines for comment regarding the incident.

“This is clearly not the kind of travel experience we strive to provide, and we have reached out to Mr. Davis’s team to apologize,” a United Airlines spokesperson said via email. “We have removed the flight attendant from duty while we closely review this matter.”
