Trader Joe’s to open Westminster store in 2025, bringing a new grocery option to area

Westminster residents will no longer need to travel far to reach the one-stop shop for items like cookie butter, tikka masala, and a bouquet of flowers.

Specialty grocery chain Trader Joe’s will be opening its newest location at the Westminster City Center, located near the intersection of Sheridan Boulevard and 92nd Avenue. The new store is slated for an anticipated opening date in late 2025, according to an announcement on the city’s Facebook page.

According to the announcement, the new Trader Joe’s Westminster store will occupy the currently vacant 25,000 square-foot space between Golf Galaxy and Sierra Trading Post.

The national chain, based in California, first arrived in Colorado in 2013 with the opening of three stores. The new Westminster store will mark the chain’s ninth store in the state, after opening stores in Denver, Greenwood Village, Boulder, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, and Parker.

According to public records in the City of Westminster database, Westminster City Council has conducted several surveys and town halls over the past year, and hundreds of respondent residents have expressed excitement for the opening of a Trader Joe’s or “similar specialty grocery store.”

The grocery store has gained an almost cult-like following over the years for its quality, directly sourced products, which, in many cases, are exclusive to the store. It has also built a reputation for its friendly staff and welcoming environment.

In fact, Trader Joe’s workers have established such a reputation for their friendliness, that it has sparked memes and TikTok posts speculating whether employees are trained to “flirt” with customers.

In just over a year, Westminster residents can expect this kind of shopping experience right in their own neighborhood.
