RTD prepares for influx of riders during Kenny Chesney concert

Kenny Chesney coming to Colorado for major outdoor concert in 2020

Country music star Kenny Chesney is expected to pack the entirety of Empower Field at Mile High on Saturday during his sixth concert at the stadium.

The Regional Transportation District (RTD), which deploys a bevy of light rails and busses near Empower Field, is preparing for the increased traffic to and from the stadium with increased services, according to a news release from the agency.

“Customers are encouraged to download RTD’s Next Ride smartphone application or use the agency’s trip planning tool and type ‘Kenny Chesney’ in the destination field,” the agency said. “Starting Friday, July 26, RTD’s Trip Planner will show all available transit options in real time to the Kenny Chesney concert at Empower Field.”

Though some RTD light rail lines have been experiencing disruptions and changes due to scheduled summer maintenance, all lines that connect to both Empower Field and Denver Union Station will operate normally on Saturday.

The D and H line trains will still be rerouted to Union Station as part of the agency’s downtown construction work, though.

These lines include the D, E, H and W lines, which all directly serve Empower Field, and the A, B, G and N lines, which provide service to Union Station.

Last light rail trains from Empower Field at Mile High Station:

  • D Line: 1:54 a.m. Sunday
  • E Line: 2:00 a.m. Sunday
  • H Line: 1:30 a.m. Sunday
  • W Line: 1:57 a.m. Sunday

Last light rail trains from Denver Union Station:

  • D Line: 1:49 a.m. Sunday
  • E Line: 1:55 a.m. Sunday
  • H Line: 1:25 a.m. Sunday
  • W Line: 1:52 a.m. Sunday

Last trips from Union Station for A, B, G and N Lines:

  • A Line: 1:00 a.m. Sunday
  • B Line: 11:09 p.m. Saturday
  • G Line: 12:01 a.m. Sunday
  • N Line: 11:56 p.m. Saturday

Buses will also be running normally to and from the area.

Kenny Chesney certainly does go back. His “Sun Goes Down” 2024 tour — supported by Zac Brown Band, Megan Moroney and Uncle Kracker — will break the record for the most performances at Empower Field. The stadium can hold more than 85,000 attendees for concerts, with Chesney likely to meet that number.
