2 dead, 3 injured in overnight Metro Denver crashes

Three separate overnight crashes in the Denver Metro have left two motorists dead and three others injured.

The first crash occurred near Smoky Hill Road and Tufts Avenue, south of Quincy Avenue in Aurora, around 8:30 p.m., according to a social media post by the Aurora Police Department.

Initial investigations showed that a woman was riding a motorcycle in the area. The woman then lost control and drove into a nearby guard rail, throwing her from the motorcycle. She died from her injuries at the scene.

Speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash, according to police. No other vehicles were involved.

The identification of the victim will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office following investigations.

The second crash occurred near Speer Boulevard and North Downing Street in Denver around 2:30 a.m. A vehicle struck a nearby tree, according to a social media post by the Denver Police Department.

Three people were taken to the hospital with an unknown extent of injuries, police said.

The third crash between a vehicle and motorcycle near 20th Street and Chestnut Street around 3 a.m., according to a subsequent post by the Denver Police Department.

Police noted the crash was fatal, but did not say whether the other driver was injured in the incident.

The identification of the victim will be released by Denver’s Office of the Medical Examiner following investigation.

Though roadways were initially blocked off for each of the three incidents, they are all open as of Saturday morning.
