Denver police investigate road-rage shooting as homicide

The shooting happened Thursday afternoon in the area of West Byers Place and South Kalamath Street

Editor’s note: The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner identified the victim as 35-year-old Fernando Alvarez-Chacon. The cause of death was a gunshot wound.

A person who was shot Thursday in Denver’s Baker neighborhood has died, and Denver Police say they believe the shooting was part of a road-rage incident.

The shooting happened just before 2 p.m. Thursday in the area of West Byers Place and South Kalamath Street. One person was taken to the hospital, police said.

On Friday, Police said the victim had died and the shooting was being investigated as a homicide.

Investigators believe the shooting is related to road rage, police said.

At the scene on Thursday, police appeared to focus their investigation around a black pickup truck that was in the grass overlooking Interstate 25.

Investigators are working to develop suspect information.
