Denver Courts to offer free legal help on Oct. 24
Attendees can meet free with a lawyer for up to 30 minutes.
Denver Courts are banding together to help the growing number of individuals accessing the court system without the assistance of a lawyer.
Free Legal Resource Day is an annual event created by the American Bar Association to encourage attorneys to give back to the community. It coincides with the organization’s Pro Bono week, which runs from Oct. 20 to 26, 2024.
The one-day event will be held at the Denver City and County building, 1437 Bannock St., from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 24. Participating courts include Denver County Court, Denver District Court, Denver Probate Court, and Denver Juvenile Court in conjunction with the Access to Justice Committee, said Carolyn Tyler, spokesperson for the City and County of Denver.
While the event is tailored to those with civil cases within the Denver Court system, all are welcome.
Several information sessions will cover a wide range of civil legal topics, including landlord/tenant issues, power of attorney and living wills, estate planning, small claims, divorce and custody, protection orders, and trial preparation.
Community vendors will be on-site with information on other important local resources.

Tyler said one of the most popular sessions is the one-on-one attorney session, where participants can speak with an attorney for up to 30 minutes free of charge.
“We encourage people to sign up for a slot because those sessions fill up quickly,” she said. “It’s also a good idea to pre-register if you want one of the slots with an attorney.”
It’s important to note that no criminal cases or questions will be considered for this event. Civil cases and questions only.
