1 dead in shooting near Atlas Prep school in south Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs police are investigating a fatal shooting  near the Atlas Preparatory School campus in southeast Colorado Springs.

The call came in at 1600 block of South Murray Boulevard around shortly before 2:30 p.m., according to a sergeant at the Sand Creek substation.

No other details about the shooting were immediately provided by police.

Gazette news partner KOAA reports the shooting happened in the parking lot of the school campus.

Police said southbound lanes of Murray Boulevard are closed from Center Park, and northbound lanes are closed at Merchant Court.

The website for Pikes Peak Pop Warner Youth Football and Cheer shows that several youth league football games were scheduled to be played at the Atlas Prep fields on Saturday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
