Community College of Aurora on lockdown as police search for armed suspect

Campus receives all clear to resume operations at 11 a.m.

The Community College of Aurora CentreTech Campus has been placed on secure status Wednesday morning as Aurora Police Department officers search for an armed suspect nearby.

The campus, located off of East Centretech Parkway in east Aurora, was placed on lockdown around 8:30 a.m., according to a social media post by the college. Classes were postponed until the police search concluded and students and faculty were asked to stay indoors.

The lockdown comes as the Aurora Police Department is searching for a man who allegedly robbed a woman at gunpoint near Alameda Avenue and South Chambers Road, around two miles from the campus.

The man was wearing all black and had a black ski mask on, police said. Anyone that sees suspicious activity is asked to call 911.

In an update on social media platform X, Community College of Aurora officials said they received an all clear to resume operations and classes at 11 a.m.

Officers were unable to find the suspect during the search and investigations are ongoing, a spokesperson with the department told The Denver Gazette.
