Man arrested after Brighton pedestrian hit-and-run
Lazaro Maya, 35, was arrested on Monday, a month after the serious crash
A Brighton man turned himself in a month after a hit-and-run pedestrian crash left a young man seriously injured.
Lazaro Maya, 35, was arrested by the Brighton Police Department on Monday in connection to the hit-and-run that occurred Oct. 4. Maya was arrested on suspicion of leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury and driving without a license, according to a news release from the department.
Police initially responded to the crash around 7 p.m. in the area of North Main Street/County Road 27 and County Road 2 1/2 on reports of a pedestrian being struck by two different vehicles. Upon arrival, officers found a 22-year-old man suffering from severe injuries.
Initial investigations found that the man had been walking before being struck by the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle then fled the scene. Police did not say whether speed or traffic violations were a factor in the crash.
The man was then hit by a second vehicle who claimed to not have seen the victim. The driver of the second vehicle stopped and cooperated with police.
Official charges against Maya will be filed by the Weld County District Attorney’s Office.
