Denver weather: Highs into middle 50s Tuesday, with some windy conditions
A mixed bag of weather conditions awaits us around the Mile High City on Tuesday as sun, clouds, wind and potential precipitation all are part of the day.
Denver residents can expect increasing clouds throughout the day and a high near 56, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. South southwest winds to blow 6 to 11 mph, becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 16 mph.
“Dense fog in Sedgwick and Phillips counties will lift by mid morning,” the NWS said. “Snow showers will develop in the mountains this afternoon and continue overnight, with a chance of mainly rain showers on the plains this evening.”
Snow accumulations will be between 4-8 inches around Rabbit Ears Pass, with between 1-4 inches in the other high mountains and less than 2 inches in the valleys.
“It will also become windy in the mountains this afternoon and on the plains by early evening,” the NWS said. “Wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph will be common in the late afternoon and early evening, with decreasing winds later tonight.”
Tonight expect a slight chance of rain showers, mixing with snow after 8 p.m., then gradually ending. Mostly cloudy conditions will remain, but gradually become mostly clear, with a low around 29. West northwest winds will blow between 7 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
