Water World evacuated due to threat

Water World in Federal Heights was evacuated Saturday due to an “unverified threat.”

A spokesperson for Water World said the park received the “unverified threat” via a phone call. The spokesperson said the park has been safely evacuated as of 12:10 p.m.

People at the park told The Denver Gazette that an announcement came over the loudspeakers asking attendees to leave the park calmly and safely. The message said an emergency was reported and that the park was closing.

Federal Heights police said in a statement on Facebook that the department was responding to a “potential threat” at Water World. The department said family reunification efforts are taking place at Camenisch Park.

Police asked the public to avoid the area during the investigation.

Attendees said the park was particularly crowded Saturday due to the hot weather. The evacuation announcement reportedly led to panic as people quickly tried to exit the park, some even leaving belongings behind.
