Two killed in Civil Air Patrol plane crash
LARIMER COUNTY — Two people died and one person survived after a Civil Air Patrol plane crashed near Storm Mountain on Saturday, according to a spokesperson for the agency.
In a social media post just before 12:10 p.m., the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office said its deputies and Larimer County Emergency Services were among those responding to a reported plane crash in the area of Storm Mountain, which is near Glen Haven and Estes Park.
Just after 3:30 p.m., a release sent out by a Civil Air Patrol spokesperson confirmed that their Cessna 182 plane crashed in Larimer County while carrying out a search and rescue training exercise.
The Civil Air Patrol is a public service organization that conducts emergency service operations, including search and rescue missions.
“Our deepest sympathies go out to the families, members, and friends affected by this tragic event,” said Maj. Gen. Regena Aye, national commander of Civil Air Patrol, in the release. “Our members serve because they care about America’s communities. Our people are our most important resource, and we are committed to ensuring their safety and security.”
The Civil Air Patrol will participate in the National Transportation Board’s investigation on the circumstances of the crash.
