Jeffco Public Schools employee fired amid active criminal investigation

A Jeffco Public Schools employee was fired amid a criminal investigation.

The school district confirmed that Director of Schools David Weiss was terminated from his position on Thursday.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said it is conducting an investigation into Weiss.

The school district and sheriff’s office both said they could not provide any additional information because the investigation is still active.

The school district said the Chief of Schools leads the Department of School Leadership and reports to the Deputy Superintendent. The position oversees increasing student achievement, quality school leadership, and school effectiveness for Jeffco’s schools and their communities.

“Practically speaking, this role oversees 11 Community Superintendents who, in turn, supervise Jeffco’s school principals,” Jeffco Public Schools said in a statement. “Additionally, this role manages the Executive Director of Athletics and Activities and Director of Student Discipline.”
