DIA has new CFO
Denver International Airport officials announced promoting Michael Biel to be its new chief financial officer.
Biel, currently deputy CFO at the airport, will begin his new role on Jan. 12.
“Michael is a seasoned finance leader who has the experience and knowledge to successfully lead DEN’s finance and accounting portfolio,” said airport CEO Phil Washington in a news release. “He has proven to be a valuable member of the executive team and is ready to help steer DEN responsibly though this ambitious period of growth as we get ready to serve 100 million annual passengers and beyond.”
Biel joined the airport as senior vice president of finance and accounting. Before that, he was the assistant director of the aviation and finance division for the Clark County Department of Aviation in Las Vegas. He worked nearly two decades in auditing, accounting and finance in the private sector before working for airports and public aviation departments.
During his tenure at DIA, Biel oversaw extending the Capital Improvement Plan covering 2023 to 2035, instead of to 2027. It expanded the budget from $2.9 billion to $12.9 billion to help the airport prepare for its goal to hit 100 million passengers per year.
He also was responsible for the team managing the airport’s accounting and financial reports.
Fertility clinic to open in Parker
Onto Fertility, a new fertility clinic, opened in Parker.
The clinic opened Jan. 2 at 12770 Lynnfield Drive, the site of the Rocky Mountain Fertility Center.
Onto Fertility took over ownership of the clinic and will keep Dr. Deborah Smith from the Rocky Mountain Fertility Center on staff.
The new owners said they aim to be more efficient and faster than other fertility clinics, as long wait times can negatively impact outcomes for people seeking to have a child.
Brett Cavanagh (center) was appointed to run Weld County’s oil and gas division.
Weld County appoints new oil and gas director
The county home to Johnstown and Greeley has a new director running its oil and gas energy department.
Weld County announced Brett Cavanagh is the new oil and gas director to replace Jason Maxey, who become the Weld County commissioner for District 1 starting in January.
Cavanagh worked more than 16 years in the oil and gas industry. He’s worked for various energy companies, including Western Midstream and Bear Peak Power LLC in Denver in roles covering land management, transmission management and project management. He’s also familiar with Weld County’s oil and gas location assessment and pipelines process.
“I’m excited to have Brett on board. We were looking for a director who would continue to look for ways to make our permitting processes efficient and effective while helping to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the public,” said Kevin Ross, chair of the Weld County Board of Commissioners, in a news release. “We believe Brett’s experience in the private sector in many different roles makes him well-suited to meet those goals.”
