ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. – Broncos rookie running back Audric Estime was inactive in favor of Tyler Badie for Sunday’s playoff game against the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium.
Badie was activated off injured reserve on Saturday after having been out since suffering a back injury Sept. 29 at the New York Jets. He rushed for 86 yards on 11 carries in the three regular-season games he played.
Estime rushed for 310 yards in 13 regular-season games and had nine or more carries in each of Denver’s last three games. That included a Dec. 19 start at the Los Angeles Chargers.
Sources said the plan originally was not to use Badie again this season but that head coach Sean Payton changed his mind around Thursday night. Payton was said to have really liked some some packages that were used in practice with Badie, and wanted to use them against the Bills.
Also inactive for the Broncos were rookie offensive lineman Nick Gargiulo, defensive lineman Eyioma Uwazurike, running back Blake Watson, linebacker Levelle Bailey and emergency quarterback Zach Wilson.
Gargiulo was elevated from the practice squad Saturday as a reward for his strong play in practice during the season. It was his fourth overall elevation this season and he was inactive each time for the game.
Inactive for the Bills were kick returner Brandon Codrington, cornerback Kaiir Elam, offensive lineman Ryan Van Demark, defensive tackle DeWayne Carter, emergency quarterback Mike White, safety Kareem Jackson and wide receiver Jalen Virgil. Jackson and Virgil, both former Denver players, were elevated Saturday from the practice squad.
