Winter weather causes hundreds of flight delays, slick roads
Another snowy Saturday saw temperatures plummet in metro Denver with sticky precipitation clogging roadways.
A winter storm moved through the area late Friday and Saturday morning, dropping temperatures to the high teens and leaving behind snow. Most areas in the metro saw between 1 and 2 inches by the afternoon.
A winter weather advisory was put into place Saturday morning for Longmont, Lakewood, Arvada, Golden, and Boulder, with conditions expected to linger until midnight, according to the National Weather Service Boulder.
While the storm was not as significant as the Arctic Blast that struck the region last Saturday with temperatures in the single digits and snow totals near 7 inches, it did cause some significant travel delays.
As of 3:30 p.m., there were 677 incoming and outgoing flights delayed at the Denver International Airport, according to FlightAware.
There were no cancelled flights at the airport throughout the day.
Between 11 a.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday, the airport reported 3.9 inches of precipitation, according to the National Weather Service.
Downtown Denver only reported around 2 inches Saturday morning, with Aurora only reporting 1.5 and Edgewater reporting 3. Light snow continued into the late afternoon, however.
Parts of Lakewood and Arvada reported 5 inches, while areas south of Denver, like Littleton, only reported an inch.
The most snow reported in the region was Louisville with 4.6 inches.
There were multiple crashes that closed various lanes of major highways during the storm, but no roads were officially closed due to the weather, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The snow is expected to clear out by Sunday, leaving mostly sunny skies with a high near 30 degrees.
