Arvada police officers shoot, seriously injure suspect in stolen vehicle

Arvada police officers shot and seriously injured a suspect while investigating a stolen vehicle in an alleyway on Saturday night, according to the police department.

According to an Arvada Police Department post on social media platform X, three officers were placed on administrative leave as of Sunday.

According to Arvada police, at around 3:40 a.m., officers discovered a stolen vehicle in an alley a block west of Kipling Parkway between 58th Place and W. 59th Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers spotted the suspect entering the stolen vehicle. The suspect refused to exit, and then fired several rounds at officers, the authorities said.

Arvada police officers shot back and struck the suspect, who was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the police.

No officers were injured in the incident. It remains unclear the identity of the officers and suspect involved.

Placing the three police officers on administrative leave is in accordance with department protocol.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing, and additional information will be released Monday.
