Aurora intersection closed after fatal crash involving semi truck

The Aurora Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that happened early Thursday morning in north Aurora.

The crash happened just before 3 a.m. at the intersection of East 32nd Avenue and North Airport Boulevard. A man was driving southbound on North Airport Boulevard when he hit the back of a semi-truck that was turning left from northbound Airport Boulevard to East 32nd Avenue, according to police.

The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. The two drivers were the only people involved in the crash according to police. Speed is being investigated as a possible cause of the crash, according to police.

The Aurora Police Department first reported about the crash on the social media platform X at about 3:44 a.m.

The intersection of East 32nd Avenue and North Airport Boulevard was closed in all directions Thursday morning. Traffic investigators are on scene and the intersection is expected to remain closed for several hours, police said in the post. The off ramps from Interstate 70 onto Airport Boulevard are also closed, police said.

The road officially reopened around 8 a.m.
