Man in Boulder allegedly set self on fire while in Jeep with dog before attempted stabbing
A man in Boulder is reportedly in critical condition after allegedly setting himself on fire on Wednesday afternoon, according to a press release from the Boulder Police Public Information Officer.
The incident is said to have taken place in north Boulder at the intersection of Kalmia Court and 28th Street. According to witnesses, the adult male was in a Jeep when he may have set himself on fire inside of the vehicle before getting out and allegedly attempting to stab a passerby with a pair of scissors before stabbing himself. A dog was reportedly in the vehicle, as well.
The City of Boulder press release on the incident indicates that a report of the situation was received at about 3 p.m., with Boulder Fire-Rescue arriving shortly after that. The Jeep was discovered to be on fire, with that fire quickly extinguished and the Boulder Police Bomb Squad was activated due to a propane tank that was inside of the vehicle.
The dog that was in the Jeep was able to escape the vehicle when a passerby opened the door. The dog sustained injuries and was caught by a community member, who handed the pup over to Boulder Police Animal Protection officers for the sake of medical treatment.
Injuries sustained by the male were described as life-threatening, though it was not specified if these life-threatening injuries were due to the fire or the scissors.
The investigation into the incident continues. Anyone who has information has been asked to contact Detective John Sailor at 303-441-1830.
No information about potential criminal charges related to the situation was included in the press release.
