Carrie Walton Penner, Damani Leech react to Broncos 2024 success: ‘Winning is far more fun’

Co-owner and team president see bright future with coach Sean Payton

The Denver Broncos front office is thrilled with a bounce-back 2024 season.

Co-owner Carrie Walton Penner and team president Damani Leech spoke with The Denver Gazette recently about a historic helmet donation initiative to every high school football program in Colorado.

They also discussed the Broncos’ 10-win campaign and first playoff berth since 2015.

“Winning is far more fun. I will say that,” Walton Penner said. “It’s great to get into the playoffs. We wish we had gone farther, obviously, but it’s great to get in. It really exceeded expectations from outside of the building, certainly, that anyone had for this season. So, it’s exciting. We’re on a good, new trajectory. And it’s really nice to clear the board of all these longstanding things that we’ve been hearing about the last three seasons: ‘It’s been this many years …’

“It’s nice to check those boxes.”

The Broncos also took steps forward as an organization.

The team unveiled new uniforms — including fan-favorite throwbacks — in their first update since 1997. The Broncos also broke ground on a new training facility (planned opening 2026) and they continue evaluating options for a new stadium.

“This was my third season. Having developed relationships with our players, our coaches, George (Paton) and his personnel staff and ownership, it’s so gratifying to see success on the field after the years of work that everybody has been putting in,” Leech said. “That’s on and off the field. Certainly, we’ve had success on the field, but also a good amount of business success off the field. We’ve invested in the stadium thanks to ownership. … Now, to have our fans be able to really enjoy it as they watch great football, it’s just even more rewarding and exciting.”
