Colorado mountain town named the best spot in world for ‘après-ski’ experience
Although flying through powder on a bluebird day is imperative to a great skiing experience, the fun doesn’t have to end when the lifts stop spinning. Many resort towns come to life as skiers and snowboarders flock to the surrounding restaurants and bars for après-ski activities, kicking back to relax after a long day on the slopes. Après-ski has become a part of ski culture at resorts across the world, and that includes Colorado.
In a recent report from Savills, Vail was named the best ski resort region for the après-ski experience worldwide, beating out all the other resorts included in the data analysis.
As one of Colorado’s best ski resorts, Vail is home to restaurants, bars, hotels, and much more to match its world-class winter slopesport experience. The Red Lion, The George, Vendetta’s, Garfinkel’s, and Pepi’s are great après-ski options in Vail.
To create the report, Savills looked at factors including ski pass prices, the average price of drinks such as hot chocolate or Aperol spritzes, and the local number of local spas, restaurants, nightclubs, and bars. The company also considered things like the average price of an apartment rental and the number of four and five-star hotels in the area.
According to Travel + Leisure, the après-ski tradition, which consists of socializing, eating, drinking, and more, started in Europe. Only two other North American resort areas made the cut to be included in the top 25. Aspen, Colorado took third place and Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia took sixth place.
“European resorts, deservedly, have a reputation for some of the best après-ski cultures in the world,” Savills said in a press release. “Apart from the three North American resorts, the top 25 is entirely dominated by European locations.”
