28-year-old suspect in Denver park shooting arrested after “short vehicle pursuit”
An arrest has been made related to a February 2 shooting at Denver’s popular Washington Park.
According to the Denver Police Department, the Sunday shooting occurred at about 2:14 p.m. in the 900 block of South Downing Street, with officers arriving at the scene to find a male victim with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a hospital, with it noted that he was expected to survive the injuries he had sustained.
The preliminary investigation associated with the case indicated that the alleged shooting started with a verbal argument between two men, which is said to have escalated when a suspect fired a gun shot as the victim in the case was attempting to leave the scene. The suspect is then said to have fired a second shot, which struck the victim.
Witnesses assisted in identifying 28-year-old Ryan Egelston as a suspect in the case. After what police described as a “short vehicle pursuit,” Egelston was arrested and is currently being held for ‘Investigation of Attempted First Degree Murder.’
A final determination of charges has not yet been made, with the Denver District Attorney’s Office to make the final decision.
All suspects are to be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
