1 dead in Denver pedestrian crash

The crash happened Thursday evening on Sheridan Boulevard

A person died following a pedestrian-automotive crash in southwest Denver Thursday evening.

The Denver Police Department responded to a crash near South Sheridan Boulevard and West Evans Avenue in the Harvey Park neighborhood around 7:30 p.m., according to a social media post from the department.

A pedestrian was struck and transported to a nearby hospital and later pronounced deceased. The driver remained on the scene to assist the investigation.

A preliminary investigation found that the pedestrian was crossing Sheridan from west to east outside of the crosswalk and against the traffic signal, police said. The pedestrian was also in the middle of the intersection.

The motorist was traveling with the right of way and was not arrested by police. Police did not note if speed or alcohol were a factor.

The identity of the pedestrian will be released by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner.
