Authorities arrest, charge woman in Highlands Ranch Main Event arcade shooting

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office investigators on Monday continued to piece together what led to a woman opening fire inside inside a crowded Highlands Ranch arcade late Saturday night, injuring one, and a deputy fatally shooting an armed man in the parking lot.

Authorities arrested Nevaeha Crowley-Sanders, 23, on one count of attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault for allegedly shooting a woman inside the Main Event arcade in Highlands Ranch, according to Douglas County Sheriff officials.

Meanwhile, a Douglas County deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave after shooting and killing an armed man in the parking lot, sheriff officials said, as per procedure.

Investigators found multiple firearms at the scene, 64 Centennial Blvd., where a woman was shot inside the business around 11:51 p.m.

The first deputy who arrived on the scene met a man in the parking lot armed with a gun, sheriff’s officials said.

After several commands by the deputy to drop his weapon, the man turned to the deputy, who then shot him, according to the sheriff’s office account.

Following life-saving measures, the man was pronounced dead shortly after, sheriff’s officials said.

Meanwhile, inside the arcade, a woman was found with a gunshot wound and was transported to the hospital. She is expected to survive, according to the sheriff’s office.

Another woman was transported with a non life-threatening medical issue, officials said, adding detectives are in the process of interviewing several witnesses.

Douglas County deputies identified then arrested Crowley-Sanders in connection to the shooting.

At the time of the shooting, Main Event was described to be “packed” by law enforcement with many patrons inside of the business, creating a “very dangerous situation” as multiple shots rang out.

The shooting is believed to have unfolded within one minute.

“We urge the community not to rush to judgment and to allow detectives time to complete their investigation,” Douglas County Sheriff officials said in a statement. “The priority remains the safety of our residents, and we are grateful for the swift actions of our deputies in responding to this dangerous situation.”

The Denver Gazette reached out to the sheriff’s office for any updates on Monday, as well as officials with the 23rd Judicial District. The district attorney will file formal charges.

Crowley-Sanders appeared in court on Monday to be advised of the charges she faces. Her bond was set at $1 million.

Authorities ask any witnesses to please call the Douglas County non-emergency number at 303-660-7500 to share information.

The Main Event management didn’t respond for comment when a Denver Gazette reporter visited on Monday.
