CSP: I-25 closed after man killed while fleeing scene of initial crash on foot

On Thursday evening, a closure was put in place on I-25 in the Fort Collins area after a driver was killed while allegedly fleeing the scene of a crash.

According to Colorado State Patrol, personnel responded to a report of a two-vehicle ‘property damage crash’ on northbound I-25 in the area of the Harmony Exit at 5:17 p.m. After the crash and prior to the arrival of law enforcement, one of the drivers involved in the crash reportedly fled the scene on foot. This driver did so by running across the interstate, getting struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross southbound lanes.

This driver was transported to a hospital and was pronounced dead. No identifying information related to the driver who was killed has been released.

No other injuries were sustained by those involved in the initial crash. All parties involved in both incidents stayed on scene and are cooperating.

Northbound I-25 was closed for about two hours in the area of the crash and subsequent incident, with southbound lanes of the highway closed a bit longer than that. The road has since fully reopened.
