Broncos from Super Bowl 50-winning team excited about 10-year reunion this fall
PALM BEACH, Fla. — Another Broncos season, another Super Bowl reunion.
Multiple players from the team told The Denver Gazette on Sunday the Broncos this fall will hold a 10-year reunion for the 2015 Super Bowl 50 champions, who were coached by Gary Kubiak and defeated Carolina 24-10 at Santa Clara, Calif. The exact date for the reunion at Empower Field at Mile High might not be known until the NFL schedule comes out in May.
“I’m really excited,’’ said punter Britton Colquitt, who played for the Broncos from 2010-15 and plans to travel in with his family from Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. “I’ve never been back to a game (as a fan). We love Mile High and Colorado. To see the energy, that’s going to be fun.”
The Broncos held a 25th reunion in 2022 for the team that defeated Green Bay 31-24 in Super Bowl XXXII in the 1997 season, a 25th reunion in 2023 for the team that beat Atlanta 34-19 in Super Bowl XXXIII in the 1998 season and a reunion last year for the team that advanced to Super Bowl XXII in the 1977 season.
That team, which made the playoffs for the first time in Denver’s 18-year history, lost 27-10 to Dallas and was honored in conjunction with linebacker Randy Gradishar being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and defensive back Steve Foley and tight end Riley Odoms into the Ring of Fame.
“I think it’s going to be a great feeling,’’ said defensive back Kayvon Webster, who played for the Broncos from 2013-16 and was a special teams stalwart in the Super Bowl win, said of his plan to attend the reunion. “Some of the guys you haven’t seen in years. So, it’s definitely to be great to catch back up. I haven’t been to Colorado in like a year and a half. It’s always great to go back to where you learned so much.”
Webster lives in Cooper City, Fla. He last attended a Broncos game when they lost 35-33 at home to Washington on Sept. 17, 2023.
Wide receiver Emmanual Sanders and defensive back David Bruton both live in the Denver area and are excited about the reunion for the third Broncos team to win a Super Bowl.
“That’s going to be awesome,’’ said Sanders, who played for Denver from 2014-19. “I’m looking forward to seeing them boys (from the 2015 team). I haven’t seen them in a while. It’s going to be awesome. That’s going to be fun, man.”
Sanders was Denver’s leading receiver in the win over the Panthers, catching six passes for 83 yards. Bruton missed the game due to injury.
“It’s going to be exciting,’’ Bruton, who played for the Broncos from 2009-15, said of the reunion. “It’s crazy that just 10 years flew by already.”
After playing for the Broncos, Colquitt concluded his NFL career with Cleveland from 2016-18 and Minnesota from 2019-20. He returned to Denver with Cleveland for a 2018 game.
“I’m coming back as a Bronco,’’ said Colquitt, who had eight punts for a 45.9 average in Super Bowl 50. “This will be my first time back as a fan. … The best part for me obviously, it goes without saying, will be seeing my old teammates, but it’s going to be great for my kids to back to a game.”
Colquitt and wife Nikki have four children in son Nash, 12, daughter Everly 11, daughter Isla, 9 and son Rhodes 7. Colquitt said coming back for the reunion will stir memories of when Isla was at the win over the Panthers on Feb. 7, 2016.
“She was two weeks old at the Super Bowl and we had to buy a ticket for her,’’ Colquitt said. “(Nikki) had one of those things wrapped around the chest where the baby is laying on you, and she was sleeping the whole time. But we still had to pay $1,800. .. It was like everybody breathing has to have a ticket (for the Super Bowl).”
With Isla not occupying her seat, it sat vacant. But Colquitt said her attending the game still was very worthwhile.
“I’ve got pictures with her doing confetti angels and a picture of me kissing her,’’ Colquitt said. “So that was a cool experience.”
Come this fall, Colquitt is looking forward to rekindling some memories of that Super Bowl-winning experience.
