The cyclist killed in a hit-and-run crash in Boulder County on Sunday has been identified as 41-year-old John Wilkinson.
The driver of a blue Toyota Highlander with Colorado plate DTSG89 struck Wilkinson at 95th Street and Avocet Lane and then fled the scene northbound on 95th Street.
Wilkinson was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Wilkinson was one of many involved in what appears to be a high number of hit and run crashes in the metro Denver area this past week, including two fatal hit and runs that occurred Sunday morning.
On Tuesday, Boulder police responded to five calls from drivers reporting hit and run crashes by a driver suspected of being under the influence.
Molly Tucker, 28, was arrested at the scene of the last crash at the intersection of Canyon Boulevard and 4th Street in connection to the calls.
Traffic officers are looking for any additional victims whose cars may have been struck in the area between 4:50 and 5:43 p.m. Tuesday.
According to a City of Boulder news release, anyone with any information relating to Tuesday’s crashes is asked to contact Crash Investigations Specialist Joe Fischer at (303) 503-0406 or [email protected] regarding case 25-04612.
Another Boulder cyclist, 17-year-old Magnus White, was struck and killed by a driver in 2023. His death led to community outcry, and prompted the “Ride for Magnus: Ride For Your Life” in August 2024.
The memorial ride brought cyclists together to “call for better laws and improved infrastructure to protect vulnerable road users,” according to the event website.
The Colorado State Patrol had no additional updates regarding Wilkinson’s crash Wednesday and it remains under investigation.
Anyone with information about Wilkinson’s crash is asked to call CSP dispatch at (303) 239-4501 and reference case no. 1D251939.
