Denver resident tests positive for measles in 12th reported state case of year

Measles

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment confirmed a vaccinated Denver resident tested positive for measles and identified three potential exposure locations in the last week.

The case is the 12th recorded in Colorado this year, according to the CDPHE’s website.

The individual was a passenger on Turkish Airlines flight 201, which landed at Denver International Airport on May 13 and has been associated with a total of seven measles cases — including four passengers on the flight — to date, according to a news release from the department. They are currently recovering at home.

The person was at the following public locations and potentially exposed others to the disease over the last week:

  • Thursday, 9:30-11:40 a.m.: Trader Joe’s at 661 Logan St., Denver
  • Saturday, 10:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m.: King Soopers at 1520 Main St., Windsor
  • Monday, 9:20-11:50 p.m.: Target at 4301 E. Virginia Ave., Glendale

Measles is a contagious disease and includes symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and a rash that usually starts several days later, according to the release. Those who are vaccinated can, in rare cases, still get the disease, but their symptoms are much milder and they are less likely to spread it to others.

Anyone who was in the locations above on the days and times listed should monitor their symptoms for 21 days after the exposure and avoid public gatherings, according to the release. Those who were at these locations during the exposure windows and develop symptoms should contact their health care provider or urgent care by phone.
