Denver police release names of 18 arrested in Tuesday immigration protests
The Denver Police Department released the names of the 18 people arrested after hundreds marched in immigration protests downtown Tuesday night.
The rallies — one of which drew hundreds in solidarity around the state Capitol, the other held further south on Broadway Street — mirrored others held around the country, namely Los Angeles, in response to the While House’s deportation campaign. It is currently unclear if the two rallies involved the same people.
Police confirmed that officers deployed smoke and pepper balls to disperse crowds who were blocking roadways in the area of South Broadway Street near Interstate 25 just after 8 p.m. Tuesday.
The arrested individuals, some as young as 19 years old, were apprehended on suspicion of a variety of charges, including assault, interference with a police officer, criminal mischief, failure to obey a lawful order and obstruction of the street, the department said.
One of the people arrested was on the Capitol green. Several others were arrested in the 700 block of S. Broadway St and at the intersection of 14th Avenue and North Clarkson Street. Three others were arrested at the intersection of 20th Street and Little Raven Street, by Union Station.
