Tornadoes and hail as big as two inches in diameter are possible throughout Colorado’s Front Range on Tuesday.
The weather conditions are part of severe thunderstorms forming over the mountains that will move east, including through Denver, Tuesday afternoon, a spokesperson from the National Weather Service Boulder said Tuesday.

The storm is expected to hit all of Colorado’s Front Range, from Wyoming to New Mexico, according to a severe thunderstorm watch issued by the NWS on social media. Parts of southeastern Wyoming were also placed under the same watch.
While the spokesperson could not completely rule out the possibility of tornadoes, they noted that the hail was of greater concern due to its size.
The spokesperson added that going outside was fine as long as people had a way to receive weather warnings, which would be more indicative of severe weather impacting that area. If people were in an area placed under a warning, they should immediately go inside, the spokesperson said.

Anyone who is able to park their car under any shelter should attempt to do so to avoid hail damage, the spokesperson added.
As of 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, nearly 700 flights in and out of Denver International Airport had been delayed, with four flights having been cancelled, according to the website flightaware.com. Flights into the airport have been delayed an average of 39 minutes due to thunderstorms, according to the Federal Aviation Administration’s website.
Meteorologist Chris Bianchi with 9News, a Denver Gazette media partner, spoke about the overnight hail storm on Instagram early Tuesday morning, noting that the rare event happened due to two factors: high moisture levels at low elevations and a cold front passing through the area helped contribute to the formation of the large hail.
The severe thunderstorm watch is expected to remain in effect until 5 p.m. Tuesday evening.
