One dead after fatal auto-pedestrian crash in Denver Friday

The westbound lanes of 6th Avenue reopened after an early Friday morning crash at North Sheridan Boulevard that left one person dead.

According to Denver Police, a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle on the highway just northeast of Lakewood. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver of the vehicle involved remained on scene, according to police.

Denver Police first posted about the crash on the social platform X at about 3:30 a.m. Friday.

Westbound lanes of 6th avenue reopened at about 7:30 a.m., according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. Traffic was diverted onto Sheridan Boulevard while emergency crews responded to the scene.

People on social media noted that cars were completely stopped on the roadway for an hour due to the crash.
