Ex-Denver wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders visits practice | Broncos training camp Day 5

ENGLEWOOD — A behind-the-scenes look at Broncos training camp practice Wednesday with observations and analysis from The Denver Gazette.
Play of the day
Wide receiver Troy Franklin continued his strong start to training camp with several impressive catches during one-on-one drills against defensive backs. He beat rookie Jahdae Barron in tight coverage for an over-the-shoulder touchdown grab. Franklin made another catch through obvious pass interference. The second-year wideout is poised to make a leap forward in 2025.
Position battle
Running back: It was a strong day for running backs Audric Estimé and Blake Watson. Both players broke free for long runs during team periods. It feels like the starting job will go to either J.K. Dobbins or RJ Harvey when the season begins. But Estimé and Watson are pushing to enter the rotation in training camp. Estimé has more experience between the two rushers. But Watson is flashing real talent.

Stock rising
DT Malcolm Roach: The most vocal trash talker in training camp stuffed Dobbins hard during a 9-on-7 period and celebrated by tossing his helmet. It highlighted the most physical practice yet of training camp. The entire front seven deserves recognition for a strong performance.
Stock falling
Offensive line: It wasn’t easy to open rushing lanes on Wednesday. Defensive linemen regularly won individual battles up front. There’s no reason to panic about the offensive line with everyone returning from a year ago. The veteran group should end up ranking among the league’s top units. But the defensive line is proving its own strength in training camp.

Attendance check
Two players — wide receiver Devaughn Vele and outside linebacker Que Robinson — were absent on Wednesday. Coach Sean Payton did not address reporters following practice.
One notable addition? Ex-Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders attended training camp. He chatted with several players following practice, including offensive tackle Garett Bolles, his former teammate. Sanders played in six Broncos seasons (2014-19) including with their Super Bowl 50-winning team.
