Fallen climber rescued in Eldorado Canyon State Park south of Boulder Wednesday
A climber was rescued from the Red Garden Wall and Yellow Spur climbing area in Boulder County inside Eldorado Canyon State Park on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
A climber is in the hospital in stable condition after falling during a climb inside a popular Boulder County state park on Wednesday.
At approximately 8:30 a.m., the Boulder County Communications Center (BCCC) received a phone call reporting a fallen climber in Eldorado Canyon State Park near the climbing area of the Redgarden Wall and Yellow Spur.
According to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, the person who called dispatch said they heard what sounded to be a person in pain from a nearby location. Upon arrival to the scene, they found a climber who had fallen and needed assistance.
According to the sheriff’s office, a technical rescue was needed to extricate the individual from the location where he had fallen.
The individual was carried down the scree field and a rope system was used to transport the male over the South Boulder Creek to an awaiting ambulance.
The climber was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The rescue lasted approximately three hours, the sheriff’s office said.
Personnel from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Mountain View Fire Rescue, and Rocky Mountain Rescue Group responded to the area to provide assistance.
The Redgarden Wall is a prominent rock formation and popular climbing area located in Eldorado Canyon State Park, near Boulder, Colorado. It’s known for its variety of trad multi-pitch climbs, ranging from beginner-friendly routes to challenging, classic lines.
The Yellow Spur is considered to be one of the best routes in the canyon, and is considered a “must climb in your lifetime route,” Golden Mountain Guides said.
