Where are the upcoming Colorado DUI checkpoints?

The Colorado State Patrol announced DUI checkpoints are scheduled for August 15 through August 23 in four counties across the state.

CSP is working with local law enforcement in El Paso, Gilpin, Ouray and Archuleta counties during the patrol’s “100 Deadliest Days of Summer” campaign to improve public safety by discouraging motorists from driving while impaired, according to a news release.

“They are a direct response to a concerning rise in impaired driving-related incidents across the state. One out of every three fatal vehicle crashes in Colorado involves an impaired driver,” according to the release.

The planned sobriety checkpoints for August include:

El Paso County: Highway 16, Fountain; Friday, Aug. 15 with Fountain Police Department

Gilpin County: Highway 119; Friday, Aug. 15 with the Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office, Blackhawk Police Department and MADD.

Ouray County: Hwy 550, Ridgeway; Friday, Aug. 22 with Ridgeway Marshal’s Office, Ouray County Sheriff’s Department and Colorado Department of Transportation.

Archuleta County: Highway 150; Saturday, Aug. 23 with the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Department and Pagosa Springs Police Department.

CSP reminds all drivers that impaired driving includes being under the influence of alcohol, marijuana, prescription medications or any other substance that affects one’s ability to safely operate a vehicle. If you plan on drinking, taking medications, or impairing substances that may impact your ability to drive safely, plan on staying at home or making a plan for a rideshare, public transportation, or a designated driver. If you see an impaired driver on the road, contact the Colorado State Patrol at *CSP (*277).
