Body found in creek near downtown Colorado Springs as heavy rains roll through area

Recovery op

A recovery operation is underway after a body was found in a creek near downtown Colorado Springs Tuesday morning.

The body was located around 8 a.m. where Shooks Run meets up with Fountain Creek near the East Las Vegas Street bridge.

“Clearly the creeks are running high, and there’s a lot of rain. It doesn’t look like anything suspicious or criminal, rather something more tragic,” said Colorado Springs Police Department spokesperson Ira Cronin.

East Las Vegas Street was closed but has reopened shortly after 9:30 a.m.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
