Interstate 70 reopened in both directions after hazardous materials spill
Interstate 70 west of Denver and U.S. 40 have been reopened Wednesday afternoon after a semi-truck spilled hazardous materials onto the highway.
The roadways were both closed between the Morrison and Lookout Mountain exits after crews responded to the scene of a hydrochloric acid leak Wednesday morning, according to a social media post from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The closures included Interstate 70 at milepost 258 and Highway 40 from milepost 283 to milepost 285.
Officials said at the time the roads will be closed between three to four hours as crews clean up the scene, according to the post. Colorado State Patrol has taken over as the lead agency in the response.
The truck was originally driving westbound on the roadway, the post says. The post was originally published at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday morning.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office worked in conjunction with Colorado State Patrol Hazmat, Arvada Fire, Genesee Fire, the Colorado Department of Transportation and Highland Rescue Team in cleaning up the leak.
