Person killed on I-25 after getting struck by tire that popped off vehicle

One person was killed on Colorado’s I-25 on the afternoon of September 2 after a wheel popped off a northbound vehicle and traveled into southbound lanes. The incident was reported at about 3:15 p.m., taking place just north of Ridgegate Parkway in Lone Tree.

The loose tire ended up striking a driver who was in a southbound vehicle, resulting in a single death. The driver of the vehicle that lost its tire pulled into the northbound shoulder and waited for law enforcement to arrive.

The incident was described as serious, impacting traffic flow on I-25 for several hours during an investigation.

Details related to any potential charges for the driver who lost the tire have not been released at this time. The identity of the deceased individual has also not been released.
