State patrol seeks witnesses to fatal pedestrian crash in hit-and-run incident in Denver

Colorado State Patrol is seeking witnesses to a fatal crash that killed a jaywalking pedestrian Wednesday night in southeast Denver.

Authorities first responded around 9:45 p.m. to a report of a struck pedestrian at the intersection of East Florida Avenue and South Alton Street in southeast Denver, CSP said in a news release Thursday morning.

The initial investigation has found that the pedestrian, a 31-year-old man wearing dark-colored clothing, was crossing the intersection but not in the crosswalk when a black Land Rover Discovery traveling westbound on East Florida Avenue hit him in the left lane, authorities said. The man was then hit again in the right lane by another vehicle, dragging him farther west of the intersection.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, CSP said.

The black Land Rover stopped on the right shoulder after the incident; the other vehicle did not stop after the second collision.

State patrol is seeking witnesses to the crash, including anyone who may have hit unknown debris in the area between 9:45 and 10 p.m., Wednesday night.

Those with information are asked to contact the Colorado State Patrol Denver Regional Dispatch Center at 303-239-4501, with reference case number VC250356. Callers should be prepared to leave their name and callback information for investigators to be able to contact them.
