DoBetterDnvr is back

DoBetterDnvr, a social media account that is sharply critical of how Mike Johnston’s administration is handling the city’s homelessness crisis, is back online after a two-week hiatus.

The account, which is known for publishing videos of homeless people in Denver — often as the latter are visibly high on drugs — began posting again on Sept. 25. It last posted about a stabbing at the light rail on Sept. 12 before going offline.

“After a nearly two-week break from DoBetterDNVR, I’m ready to re-engage,” the account said on X. “This break gave me time to reflect on my mission to make Denver a better place for everyone: residents, taxpayers, and our most vulnerable.

The account added: “I’ve made mistakes over the past two years, and I haven’t always gotten it right. Moving forward, I’m committed to ensuring my posts are accurate and constructive.

DoBetterDnvr also apologized for making “personal attacks” against Mike Johnston and his wife.

“Those were unnecessary, counterproductive, and distracted from the meaningful conversations we need to have about Denver’s future. Despite these setbacks, DoBetterDNVR has achieved real victories: reconnecting families with loved ones struggling on the streets (several now in recovery), defeating Mike Johnston’s 2R ballot initiative last November, and providing relief to neighborhoods impacted by encampments,” the account said.

The account insisted that it was not coerced into apologizing to the Johnstons.

“I haven’t been compromised, l’m safe and my apologies to the Johnstons were not coerced or even requested,” the account said. “I still plan to expose Johnston’s failing policies daily and I won’t apologize for that.”

While it has begun posting on X, DoBetterDnvr’s last post on Instagram was from six weeks ago. It’s Facebook account also remained inactive.

DoBetterDnvr has more than 120,000 followers on Instagram and over 25,000 on X.

The platform’s author issued the following statement to The Denver Gazette when it went offline:

“I deactivated my Instagram and X accounts last night. They were not hacked or removed by either platform. Any copycat accounts claiming to be ‘Do Better Denver’ are imposters and should be reported.”
