Unnamed Evergreen High shooting victim released from hospital

One of the two teens shot at Evergreen High School last month has been discharged from Children’s Hospital Colorado, a hospital spokesperson said Wednesday.

The 14-year-old boy, who has not been publicly identified, was released in good condition on Tuesday to continue his recovery at home, the spokesperson said.

The teen’s family, in a statement that was released last week, said he had confronted the shooter and was shot at close range. He ran from the school to the recreation center nearby where he received critical first aid care from a EMT/firefighter and others. The boy was then rushed to St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood. He was transferred to Children’s Hospital two days after the shooting on Sept. 12.

The shooting took place Sept. 10 at the high school in the foothills west of Denver, when a student opened fire with a handgun, wounding the teen and another student, Matthew Silverstone, before taking his own life, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
