Broncos vs. Jets: 3 takeaways from Denver’s 13-11 victory in London

The Broncos defeated the Jets, 13-11, on Sunday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Here are three takeaways from the Week 6 victory:
Offense struggles
Quarterback Bo Nix, on the third play of the first series, connected with wide receiver Troy Franklin on a catch that should have been a first down. Franklin instead gave up a fumble. It set the tone for offensive struggles that continued throughout the game. The Broncos had one touchdown drive in the first half. Their lack of explosive plays, especially from running back J.K. Dobbins and wide receiver Courtland Sutton, stood out as three straight drives ended with a punt. Then a holding call in the end zone (on right guard Quinn Meinerz) resulted in a safety to give New York the lead, 11-10, in the third quarter.
Lutz steps up
Give credit to kicker Wil Lutz. His pair on converted field goals — a long kick (57 yards) and a chip shot (27 yards) — were critical in a game where offensive rhythm was hard to find. You might remember that Lutz missed a 42-yard field goal against the Colts in a one-point road loss in Indianapolis. The Broncos never wavered in their confidence behind the 31-year-old veteran NFL kicker. His 57-yarder tied a career best and marked his longest Broncos field goal since signing with the team in 2023. Lutz has the trust of teammates as a two-time team captain.
Sack machine
The Broncos entered Week 6 leading the NFL with 21 sacks. It was more of the same in London. Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph’s unit combined for nine sacks of Jets quarterback Justin Fields. They came from all over: DE Zach Allen, OLB Nik Bonitto, OLB Johnathon Cooper (two), S Talanoa Hufanga, DE John Franklin-Myers, ILB Justin Strand (1.5) and DE Eyioma Uwazurike. The Broncos also held New York out of the end zone, holding the Jets to three field goals. Denver’s red zone defense also leads the NFL. It was another strong performance in Week 6.
