2 Colorado children found safe in Texas, mother arrested after Saturday abduction
Authorities in Texas on Sunday safely found two Colorado children abducted by their noncustodial mother, who allegedly attempted to take them on Saturday to Mexico, according to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
In a Sunday afternoon news release, Adams County sheriff’s officials said Magali Mejia Sanchez, 31, is restrained from contacting her biological children: an 11-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy.
On Saturday, Adams County deputies responded to a parental abduction call in the 8600 block of Faraday Street, according to the sheriff’s office.
Authorities said Sanchez allegedly took the children from their legal guardian, telling the guardian she planned on taking the kids to Mexico.
Deputies noted Sanchez is restrained from contacting her children and is only allowed supervised visits with them.
During the one-day investigation, both law enforcement in Texas and Adams County quickly discovered Sanchez in Texas, where a statewide Amber Alert was issued, according to the sheriff’s office.
Authorities then issued an arrest warrant. At 2 p.m. MDT, Fredericksburg police in Gillespie County, TX, arrested Sanchez without incident, the sheriff’s office reported.
Police arrested Sanchez for violating her protection order, a class 1 misdemeanor, authorities said.
