Denver police officer opens fire after house party shooting that injures 3
A Denver house party shooting left at least three people injured in an incident where police officers opened fire on the suspected shooter, according to police.
As of Sunday morning, no suspect was in custody, police said during a news conference.
At around 1:50 a.m., before the time changed back an hour, Denver police received a call about a large fight at a home in the 5100 block of North Biscay Street in the Green Valley Ranch neighborhood, according to police.
Upon arrival, officers heard what they thought was gunfire, saw people running and moved toward a suspect believed to have a weapon, police said.
In an early morning news conference, Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas said officers “challenged” the suspect and continued to pose a threat and refused to comply. One officer fired shots at the individual, according to Thomas.
Thomas noted authorities don’t know whether or not the officer struck the suspect, who had fled the scene. Police found three people with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds in lower extremities during the initial exchange before officers arrived, Thomas said.
Thomas said several people at the large party fled the area.
Police initially had reported on social media platform X at 2:53 a.m. a suspect had been taken to the hospital.
“This is an active scene that we are still investigating. Trying to determine what exactly happened and who all was involved,” Thomas said.
Authorities ask anyone with information to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
