Kickin’ It with Kiz: The case for the Broncos benching Bo Nix in favor of Jarrett Stidham
Bo Nix doesn’t have it. The Broncos are lucky to be 8-2 thanks to the defense. Nix doesn’t set his feet, rushes passes and throws the ball up for grabs. Not sure if it’s mental, but I’m getting Jay Cutler vibes.

Kiz: Pull the trigger! Any NFL quarterback who hesitates is lost. Unsteady in the pocket, Nix has lost confidence in what he’s seeing develop downfield. With an average skill set for a pro QB, his greatest attribute is mental toughness. So with a mini-bye after that Thursday night mess, maybe Nix hits the reset button and comes out firing against Kansas City. But I’m not afraid to say it: With a chance to win the AFC West, coach Sean Payton should stop at nothing, including replacing Nix with Jarrett Stidham, if Nix looks lost in the first half against the Chiefs.
Kiz, you say Nix came into the NFL with a high floor and a modest ceiling. The problem with that assessment is Bo occasionally plays like an elite QB. He has it in him. Unfortunately, this season it’s only showing up in the fourth quarter.

Kiz: True greatness does not show up only 25% of the time. If Nix earns three ‘F’s and one ‘A’ on his report card, that gives him a 1.0 GPA. Right now, he’s a ‘D’ quarterback. This Broncos defense can carry a merely average QB a long way. That’s why Payton should seriously consider benching Nix for Stidham, even if it’s only for half a game.
Halloween has come and gone, but Payton continues to be a medium for the ghost of Dan Reeves. Payton keeps his young quarterback in a straight jacket, hoping to win games late in desperation. At some point the quarterback and a young, offensive-minded assistant will get caught drawing up their own plays. I think you know what happens next.

Kiz: A young Elway was a Ferrari that didn’t know how to harness his own power, so Reeves put a regulator on him until it was go-go-go time in the fourth quarter. Nix? He’s a Subaru. The kind of quarterback who can get you there, provided Payton doesn’t wreck him with ever-changing personnel groupings. Before Nix tries secretly conspiring with QB coach Davis Webb behind Payton’s back, the young man should get in his head coach’s face and tell him to cut the ego-driven playcalling crap.
I’m really ticked with so-called Broncos fans clutching pearls and whining about the Raiders game. Also: Booing the home team is bush league. Hey, you posers: We have the best record in the entire NF of freakin’ L!
– Joe, no patience for posers
Kiz: While I admire your unrelenting support for these Broncos, they’re playing more like the team that got blown out of the playoffs last season than a legit Super Bowl contender.
And today’s parting shot is rousing applause for the decision by Rockies owner Dick Monfort to raid the NFL for new leadership in the front office.
The hire of Paul DePodesta as the head of baseball operations is a perfect match for the Rockies. DePodesta has been out of the major league baseball for 10 years … and so have the Rockies.
