District 38 college signees have an RMAC feel

The Tri-Lakes area has long been well represented in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. After national letter of intent signing day Wednesday, it’s clear that representation will continue.

Nine School District 38 student-athletes signed to play at the next level. Four of those will be competing in the RMAC.

That’s not surprising. The powerhouse NCAA Division II conference not only has a long history of national success, it also has 10 of its 15 full member schools in Colorado.

From Lewis-Palmer, Noah Thompson signed to compete in cross country and track and field at Fort Lewis in Durango. Thompson broke his school’s record in cross country three times, first during his junior year and twice more during this fall season.

He had options, but chose Fort Lewis for fit and lifestyle.

“I chose Fort Lewis because the team was super welcoming and super fun,” Thompson said. “The location fits everything that I want – fishing, mountains, skiing. It felt like home.”

From Palmer Ridge, Corinna Arellano will take her softball skills to Colorado-Colorado Springs, Ava Odil signed to compete in girls’ soccer at Western Colorado and Ava McLain will compete in girls’ golf at Colorado Christian.

Arellano was the Pikes Peak Conference Player of the Year in 2025 after hitting .560 with 14 home runs and 56 RBIs in 28 games. She chose UCCS for the team’s upside and the school’s nursing program.

“Coach (Dwight) Sanders is giving me such a super opportunity. I think they’re one of the best D-IIs in the country,” Arellano said.

She also likes the location.

“I’m still a mama’s and daddy’s girl,” she said. “I’m super excited that I’m staying close to home.”

Other area signees from Lewis-Palmer were Lucas Clinard (baseball) Ottawa, Reese Douglas (track and field) Hillsdale, Garrett Hennis (baseball) Simpson and Bridyn Schortzman (softball) Midland. Palmer Ridge’s Addison Davis will play volleyball at Trinidad State.
