People unharmed, cat dead after early morning Lakewood apartment fire displaces about 30
A cat was the only victim of a fire at a Lakewood apartment complex Saturday morning that displaced about 30 people.
The fire occurred in a second-story apartment near the intersection of Lamar Street and West 13th Avenue in Lakewood, according to social media posts from West Metro Fire Rescue. The agency first was notified of the fire around 6:40 a.m. Saturday, a spokesperson for West Metro confirmed Saturday morning.
No people were injured, the spokesperson said. Crews also rescued one parrot and three cats, one of which died.
The fire damaged two second-level units and two units below have water damage from the fire response, authorities said. Crews were continuing to check for hot spots as of 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

A Google Maps search of the area indicates the complex is called the Quiet Creek Apartments, but the business listing does not have an associated phone number. A business records search for Quiet Creek Apartments revealed that the organization’s registration as a limited liability company expired in July.
Authorities are investigating cause of the fire.
