Colorado sex offender sentenced to 10 years in prison for child exploitation

A Colorado man was sentenced to 10 years in prison and a lifetime of supervised release after he admitted to possessing thousands of child sexual abuse images.

Steven Glenn Christiansen, 69, of Fort Collins, pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography after he used a mobile messaging app with access to “invite only” group chats in which users exchanged photos and videos of the abuse material, according to a Thursday news release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Christiansen had previously been convicted in March 2000 for sexually assaulting a child, according to the release.

Members of the chats used them to share livestreams and save files, usually containing minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct, on third party platforms, according to the release. Christiansen was one of those members, communicating with other uses to request and exchange the material.

Authorities found several digital devices containing images and videos of the abuse material after executing a search warrant on Christiansen’s residence, according to the release. He admitted to possessing thousands of photos.

U.S. Attorneys Kaylynn Foulon and Melissa Hindman prosecuted the case.
