Colorado State suspends QB Darius Curry for Air Force game after spitting at Boise State player
Colorado State quarterback Darius Curry has been suspended for the final game of the season after spitting at a Boise State player during Saturday’s 49-21 road loss.
Senior offensive lineman Liam Wortmann was also suspended for the 2025 season finale against Air Force.
“After having a chance to review the film following the game, I want to apologize to the Boise State football players, Coach (Spencer) Danielson, and everyone at Boise State University”, interim coach Tyson Summers said in a statement.
The incident occurred in the second half of the game after what appeared to be a fumble recovered by the Broncos but was later ruled an incomplete pass. At the end of the play, Curry approached Boise State defender Jayden Virgin-Morgan and spit in his direction.
“I want to sincerely apologize to Jayden Virgin-Morgan and the entire Boise State football program for my actions during the game,” Curry said in a statement posted to X. “What I did was unacceptable, disrespectful and completely against the values I’m expected to represent as a student-athlete.
“I also want to apologize to my Colorado State teammates, coaches and our fans. I let you down. I allowed my emotions to get the best of me, and I crossed a line that should never be crossed.
“I want to apologize to my parents and my family, as well. They raised me better than what I showed last night, and my actions didn’t reflect who I am or the values they taught me. I take full responsibility. There’s no justification and no excuse. I will use this as a moment to grow, learn and make sure my actions reflect the standard of Colorado State University and the game of football.”
Curry was making his first career start Saturday night and completed 26-of-46 passes for 293 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions as the Rams fell to 2-9 on the season.
The redshirt freshman from Long Beach, Calif. began the season as CSU’s third-string quarterback but has been elevated in recent weeks following Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi’s decision to leave the program following his benching and an injury suffered by Jackson Brousseau last week at New Mexico.
If Brousseau is not able to return this week, that would leave Akron transfer Tahj Bullock as the only scholarship quarterback available. Bullock has been used almost exclusively as a runner this season and his role has been drastically reduced since Jay Norvell was fired.
The Rams face Air Force for the final time as Mountain West foes this Friday (1 p.m. FS1) at Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins. The Falcons lead the series 39-22-1 with CSU winning last season for the first time since 2015.
